Where It All Went Wrong

One doesn't have to read novels by Stephen King or Dean Koontz to realize that evil is a real problem in this world. And it is a problem that ultimately cannot be blamed on external causes. The problem of evil lies very close to home: as someone has said, "the heart of the human problem is the problem of the human heart." In the movie, "Good Morning Vietnam" there is a clip in which Louis Armstrong sings, "What a Wonderful World" while scenes of poverty, misery, violence and death fill the background (watch). What is wrong with the world? Some religions say the problem is human ignorance; others say it is a problem of insufficient effort to get along; others say it is God's judgment on immoral people. But the Bible gives a powerful explanation for why the world is the way it is, along with a positive hope for a better future, not conditional on human achievement or learning, but guaranteed by the grace of God.
